COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROCESS

Community Engagement

To ensure the school community is engaged in the project, the project manager (PM) will work directly with the school principal to discuss the identified renovations, meet with the architect, and coordinate the construction schedule. The principal will decide which school staff or parents might need to be involved with the design process depending on the scope of work. The project manager will share information with the entire school staff at key milestones through the design process.

September 2025

Construction is substantially complete and the project team is working with the contractor to finish final task list items and close out the project. Students and staff are enjoying the updated spaces and improvements! This and other construction work around BVSD could not be possible without the generous support from our voters and the entire BVSD community. We are extremely grateful for this support and are thrilled for the Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer community and its students!

August 2025

Welcome to the August Construction Update for Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer! We are extremely excited to report that the summer 2025 Bond construction project is now substantially complete. While there are a few final items being addressed during the month of August, the bulk of the work is now completed and the school is up and running as usual. As a reminder, here are some of the major items that were completed over the summer here at Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer ES:

Replacement of HVAC system for the library (Due to delays with equipment, the library will be offline until September. Media specialists will host library lessons in other areas of the school in the meantime.)
Repairs to areas of roof and roof components
Upgrades to lighting in classrooms and corridors
Extensive playground renovations, including new equipment and solid surface areas
Addressing various ADA issues in select areas of the school
Installed a lift to the 2nd floor, located in the atrium area
Completed replacement of north playing field, including irrigation and new sod
Re-paving of the staff parking lot on the north side of the school
Miscellaneous site improvements around the school

Overall, the entire school site looks amazing, and we are thrilled about the work that has been completed. We are sincerely grateful for all of your patience as the school site was off-limits to the community during this important work. As always, this and other facility improvements around BVSD could not be possible without the support and generosity of the entire BVSD community and we sincerely thank you for your support. July 2025

Welcome to the July Construction Update for Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer! We have passed the halfway point for the summer construction project, with plenty of work to be completed before students return to school on August 13th. As with any project of this magnitude, there have been some unexpected challenges but nothing that has put the project schedule behind in an impactful way. With that being said, please see below for the tasks that are to be completed during the month of July:

Installation of sod on the north field and begin watering/establishing phase
Repaving and striping of north parking lots
Ongoing installation of new playground equipment and playground surfacing
Installation of new lift in the atrium
Ongoing installation of light replacement
Ongoing painting in select areas
Begin installation of new roof top HVAC unit for the library

As a reminder the library will be temporarily closed for the first few weeks of the school year as we complete the HVAC work which will add centralized air conditioning to this space.

We are very excited about the work that has been done so far at Pioneer, and we believe you will be too! June 2025

Welcome to the June Construction Update for Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer! With school officially over for the year and students and staff off for a well-earned summer break, construction at Pioneer is well underway. While only select areas will be impacted by construction work inside the school, there is a lot of activity taking place around the campus. As such, the school building, along with the vast majority of the surrounding campus, are currently off limits to anyone besides construction related personnel. This will be the case for the duration of the summer. Below is an overview of construction activities planned for the month of June:

Site improvements at the playing fields including, turf removal, grading, irrigation and sod installation
Playground equipment additions (select areas), shade shelters, begin repairs to existing surfacing and installation of new surfacing
Landscaping improvements in select areas of the campus
Begin walkway and gymnasium stucco repairs
Begin removal of parking lot surfacing and replacement
Demo and replacement of exterior and interior lighting and skylights in gymnasium
Demo and replacement of roof (select areas)
Begin installation of ADA accessible lift in the atrium

May 2025

We hope this message finds you and your student(s) well as we quickly approach the end of the school year! We are excited for the upcoming kick-off of construction for renovations coming to Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer this summer. These improvements are the result of the support from the entire BVSD community through passage of the 2022 BVSD Bond Referendum.

Our $3.5M project will begin immediately after Memorial Day weekend (with some site mobilization taking place in the days leading up to the end of school) and will be substantially complete by early August. Highlights of the project include:

Repairs to areas of roof and roof components
Upgrades to lighting to LED
Replacement and addition of select playground equipment
Improved playground surfacing
Address various ADA issues
Install lift to 2nd floor
Improvements to the North play field
Re-paving of the staff parking lot on the north side of the school
Miscellaneous site improvements around the school
Replacement of select HVAC Systems

Last spring, the design team met several times with school leaders and staff members to gain a better understanding of the needs at the school. Design work continued over the summer. Highlights of the improvements being planned include providing second floor ADA access with a mechanical lift to be installed in the atrium, as well as renovations for all three playgrounds. The playground improvements aim to increase accessibility for students with mobility differences with large areas of rubberized solid surface material. In addition, some existing swings will be replaced with adaptive models. You can learn more about the design intent behind the playground renovations here.
The design is proceeding on schedule and bidding will occur in November/December.
Construction for Phase 2 projects will begin in the spring/summer of 2025.
