UPDATES
This letter was mailed to the school community this spring.
March 2026
BVSD is in the early stages of design work for projects in the final phase of the 2022 Building for Student Success bond program. Parallel with the design process, the district is engaging with staff, families and the community to have important conversations about declining enrollment and planning for the future of the Boulder Valley School District, which includes the possible consolidation, closure, or programmatic changes at the elementary level. These conversations will continue through the spring, and final decisions on any proposed changes are anticipated for October.
To learn more about the district’s work related to declining enrollment, please see our website.
Despite this uncertainty, we are proceeding with design for several reasons. Understanding the existing needs of our buildings and the costs to address them will be valuable as BVSD develops facility options for the Board to consider. In addition, moving ahead with design will put us in a position to start construction in 2027, pending the Board’s decisions in October.
Projects are currently in the early design stages. Initial meetings with principals, project architects and BVSD project managers to learn more about the work that is planned for each school and the project timelines are underway. Meetings will continue in the coming months and next school year. More information about each project, including the full scope of work and future project updates can be found on project pages on the Building for Student Success website.
Please direct questions about the project to Kris Stoppenhagen at kris.stoppenhagen@bvsd.org.
Sincerely,
Kris Stoppenhagen

Welcome to the August construction update for the Nederland Middle/Sr. High School track and artificial turf project!
The oval track is taking shape and the base layer is currently being installed. Once this layer has cured, two coats of the red rubberized surface will be added to provide good grip and cushioning for the athletes. The final step will be adding the striping. The track is on course to be completed before the first game on August 27.
The building renovations outlined in the BVSD Facilities Critical Needs Plan are scheduled for construction the summer of 2027. The plan includes repairs and maintenance items such as auditorium improvements, updates to HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, roof and skylight repairs, and renovations that will allow us to offer our students more opportunities for Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes. Additional updates will be provided as we get closer to the project kicking off.
We are excited for the changes that have been made here at Nederland Middle/Sr. High School this summer, and we hope you and your student(s) feel the same way. We know that this project impacted the school community and we thank you for all your patience and support. We look forward to seeing the students enjoy the new track and field as we approach the 2025-26 school year!

July 2025
Welcome to the July Construction Update for Nederland Middle/Sr. High School! The existing 15+ year old soccer field replacement is complete with new artificial turf and an upgraded shock pad underneath for added safety and comfort for the players. The school logo and elevation add a bright, fresh and professional look. All drains surrounding the field were cleaned and maintained to keep the field looking its best through storms and heavy rain. The track has been completely resurfaced with asphalt and will receive a new rubberized surface with striping at the end of the month. This project is currently on schedule, with a completion date slated for the end of July.
We hope that this message finds your student(s) happy and enjoying the summer break. As always, we appreciate your patience and support for this project and could not be more grateful to the voters for providing BVSD the funds to make this all possible.

Welcome to the June Construction Update for Nederland Middle/Sr. High School! The new asphalt track surfacing is complete and new track rubberized surface and striping will follow at the end of July. Existing turf and pad are being removed and will be recycled.
Once again, for the safety of everyone, we ask that you and your students avoid coming to the Nederland MS/Sr. High campus unless specifically requested to do so. We are excited about the changes happening here and sincerely appreciate your patience and support. Have a wonderful and relaxing summer break!

Nederland Middle School/High School artificial turf project
We hope this message finds you and your student(s) well. The BVSD Bond Department is excited to tell you about some renovation work that will happen at the school over the summer. These improvements are the result of the support from the entire BVSD community through passage of the 2022 BVSD Bond Referendum.
Our $7M project will include much needed repairs and maintenance such as auditorium improvements, updates to HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, replacement of the synthetic turf field and track surface, and renovations that will allow us to offer our students more opportunities for Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes among other important work. Much of this work is several years away. However, because of the urgency, the turf field work is happening this summer.
Student and staff safety is our top priority at the Nederland Middle/High School and in the Boulder Valley School District. While work on our project is slated for the summer months when school is not in session, we realize that the grounds are frequented by the community during this time. Please note: There will be no access to the track and field area during this summer construction work. For everyone’s safety, we ask for compliance with all posted signage and temporary barriers.
