UPDATES

Thanks to your tax dollars big changes happened here in 2025!
The Critical Needs work has been completed and this will conclude our updates. This and other construction work around the Boulder Valley School District could not be possible without the generous support from our voters and the entire BVSD community. We are extremely grateful for this support and are thrilled for the Meadowlark School community and its students!

We want to let you know about some additional work that was recently completed at Meadowlark as part of the 2022 Bond Program. This month, several trees, shrubs and irrigation lines were installed near the new modular classrooms to beautify the area and eventually provide shade. Thanks for your support of this project! Have a wonderful and relaxing summer break!

This summer, BVSD is putting bond funds and other voter-supported tax dollars from the ongoing Operational Mill Levy to work to help address enrollment growth and drainage issues at the campus:
-
Modular classrooms - To provide more learning space, two modular buildings will be installed on the north side of the building to create four additional classrooms. Site work, including grading as well as installation of sidewalks and concrete pads is underway. The modular units will be delivered in September, followed by utility connections. The rooms will be ready for use this fall.
-
Interior room reconfiguration (Art, Special Education offices, motor lab, makerspaces) - With the enrollment growth and addition of classroom space in the modular buildings, there will be some shifting around inside the school and related reconfiguring of walls and spaces to accommodate new uses. This work is nearly complete. Furniture and equipment will be delivered in August.
-
Play area improvements - On the south side of the school, artificial turf will be installed to enlarge the usable play area and address some drainage issues. A new Gaga pit and shade structure will also expand play spaces and options. This work, with the exception of the shade structure, will be completed this summer. Delivery and installation of the shade structure is anticipated for mid-September.
-
Additional parking - 17 parking spaces will be added to the staff parking lot on the south side of the building to accommodate additional staff members that are needed due to enrollment growth. This should relieve the overflow into the front “Visitor” lot as well as on the street along Front Range.
SCOPE OF WORK
BUILDING SYSTEMS
- Update obsolete HVAC controls
INFRASTRUCTURE/SITE
- Install exterior shade structure
Thanks to the generosity of the BVSD community, Meadowlark School is one of five new schools constructed in the 2014 Bond Program. These buildings are still in the “honeymoon” phase when very little major maintenance work is needed and overall operating costs are lower.
The new buildings were designed to meet ambitious energy efficiency goals. As of July 2021, the new buildings are 48 percent more energy efficient than the buildings they replaced or a code-compliant building of the same size. How the District builds and operates buildings has a tremendous impact on our carbon footprint. Building them right matters and will make a difference for the long-term health of our planet and our students.
The buildings also were designed with an eye on indoor environmental quality with abundant natural light provided by large windows, comfortable furniture and good indoor air quality achieved with ample ventilation and the use of low VOC products and materials.
