Welcome to the August Construction Update for Lafayette Elementary School. As we fast approach the return of staff and students, all the projects around the school have been completed or are near completion. Staff and students will return to playground improvements, a repaved parking lot, and new ceilings among other renovations. Below is a short list of activities that will be taking place during the early part of August:

Complete work on the playground areas, including the installation of the new surfaces in select areas

Ceilings in selected areas of the school completed

Complete exterior punch walk by 8/9
We are excited for the changes that have been made here at Lafayette Elementary School this summer, and we hope you and your student(s) feel the same way. Welcome to the July Construction Update for Lafayette Elementary School. There have been projects big and small taking place at LES so far, and we are very pleased with the progress. While some tasks have been completed, others are just starting, with a full completion date early next month. Note that as we move closer to the start of the 2024-25 school year, we will provide you with specific details about any final details of the project. Below is a list of what is happening at LES during the month of July:
Complete playground work, including:
- Install poured-in-place rubberized surface material, reinstall tops of playground equipment, reinstall wood chips in select areas, stripe basketball and tetherball courts
Other areas of the campus:
- Remove asphalt in parking lot, repave and stripe
- Install the equipment for paging across the campus
- Install speakers in office, hallways and on the exterior for the paging system
- Testing and final inspections
We are excited for the many changes coming to Lafayette for the coming school year. We hope that this message finds you and your family enjoying the summer break and that your student(s) are “recharging their batteries'' for the coming school year. Welcome to the June Construction Update for Lafayette Elementary School. We want to congratulate you and your student(s) on another successful year at Lafayette and hope that this message finds your summer off to a great start! Activity around the construction site has kicked into gear since the Memorial Day weekend. Work is taking place in select areas inside the school and on the playgrounds around the site. In addition, areas of the roof will be repaired/replaced. While the campus will be largely closed during construction, please be sure to follow all construction related safety signage if you do happen to come by. Work planned for June is detailed below:

Mill and overlay driveway area in front of school

Restripe parking lot

Remove select playground landing zones and equipment and replace with accessible surfacing and play equipment; restripe playground surfaces; install landscape boulders

Remove and replace the hot water heater and associated equipment and piping

Updates to the ceiling in the library

Inspection, testing and updating of the school-wide paging system

Our $1.14 million project will begin immediately after Memorial Day weekend (with some site mobilization taking place in the days leading up to the end of school) and will be substantially complete by early August. Highlights of the project are described below:

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROCESS
Community Engagement
To ensure the school community is engaged in the project, the project manager (PM) will work directly with the school principal to discuss the identified renovations, meet with the architect, and coordinate the construction schedule. The principal will decide which school staff or parents might need to be involved with the design process depending on the scope of work. The project manager will share information with the entire school staff at key milestones through the design process.
