Welcome to the June Construction Update for Centennial Middle School! With school officially over for the year and students and staff off for a well-earned summer break, construction at Centennial MS is well underway. To allow the contractor to make the most of the summer “down time” the school building, along with select spots around the campus, are closed to anyone besides construction personnel. This will be the case for the duration of the summer. Below is an overview of the construction activities that will be taking place throughout the CMS campus during the month of June:

• Abatement activities in the lower gym (specifically floor tile removal and replacement)
• Begin demo in the computer lab (CTE area)
• Complete demo, and begin reinstallation, of corridor ceiling grid and tile, primarily in the first floor area
• Begin rough-in for new LED lighting and new intercom system
• Begin demolition of staff restroom and student restrooms by the staff lounge

While the majority of the surrounding campus is accessible to the public, we ask that you and your students avoid coming to the school building itself unless specifically authorized to do so. We are very excited about the changes in store for CMS and sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work our way through this busy summer of construction.  Have a wonderful and relaxing summer break

Dear Centennial Middle School Parents and Staff,

We hope this has been a successful school year for you and your student(s)! The BVSD Bond team is excited to let you know construction will be starting soon for renovations provided by the Building for Student Success program. These improvements are coming to Centennial Middle School thanks to support from the entire BVSD community through passage of the 2022 Bond measure.  

In addition to much-needed repair and upgrades to building systems and finishes, highlights of the improvements coming to Centennial Middle include:

• Concrete and paving repair and replacement
• Roof repair and replacement
• Improvements to interior finishes such as flooring, painting and ceilings
• Baseball/softball bleacher replacement
• Select restroom renovations
• Renovations to expand opportunities for career and technical education

Our $6 million project will begin after the students leave in May and will be complete when school resumes in August. 

Student and staff safety is our top priority at Centennial Middle School and in the Boulder Valley School District. During the summer months, there will be no access to the building and school grounds. For everyone’s safety, please comply with all posted signage and temporary barriers. 

All workers who are authorized to be on-site will have numbered project stickers on their hard hats and will have background checks. Generally, there should be no reason for workers to interact with school staff or community members during this project.

We want to keep you informed as the project progresses. We will meet weekly with the architect(s) and construction company and will update you regularly about construction progress during the summer months. May 2026

Project postcards were sent to neighbors this month.

April 2026

The Contractors are gearing up to start work on the building updates and improvements in our Critical Needs Plan. Construction for the Phase 3 projects will begin after the students leave in May for summer break.

January 2026

The Board approved the GMP Contract in November.  Construction is scheduled to commence on May 26, 2026 with a substantial completion date of August 1, 2026.

September 2025

The project teams are in the final stages of design for the Phase 3 projects.  Construction documents will be issued in the fall and the contractor’s guaranteed maximum price (GMP) will go to the Board for approval in November.  Construction is expected to kick off in May 2026 after the students leave for summer break.

April 2025

Design meetings with the project team and school staff will continue through the summer. Construction documents will be completed this fall with construction bidding planned for late fall.  Construction for Phase 3 projects will begin in the spring/summer of 2026.

February 2025

Centennial Middle School project postcards were sent to neighbors this month. 

January 2025

The project team of Eidos Architects and Palace Construction have been selected for the project.  The project team will begin meeting with the Design Advisory Team this month.

November 2024

The project team of Eidos Architects and Palace Construction have been selected for the project. 

September 2024

The Bond project management team will be working with our Procurement staff this fall to contract with architects and general contractors for Phase 3 projects.

June 2024

The tennis courts are being reconstructed during Phase 1 in 2024. The remainder of the project will be completed in Phase 3. 

December 2023

The Critical Needs work will be completed in Phase 3, which is scheduled for 2026.  Additional updates will be provided as time warrants.  Stay tuned for further information about our project.
