UPDATES
July 2026
Welcome to the July Construction Update for Birch Elementary School! We hope summer is in full swing for you and your family, as it certainly is from our side of the fence, with plenty of work ahead from now to August. With a good portion of the summer behind us, we are pleased to report that the Birch project is rolling along smoothly as we work toward substantial completion on Aug. 1 in time to welcome staff and students back to the building. Construction activity planned for the month of July is detailed below:
- Complete installation of new bike racks
- Complete repaving & striping of parking lot
- Complete re-sealing & striping of south playground area
- Complete painting and flooring in select areas around the school
- Complete lighting replacement in select areas
- Install new hot water heater and water fountains (select locations in the hallway)
- Complete ceiling replacement in select areas of the school
There are exciting changes coming to Birch, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we work through the end of this summer project. Note that the school, and parts of the grounds, are still an active construction site. Thus, for the safety of everyone, we ask that you avoid coming to the campus unless absolutely necessary. The Boulder Valley School District is extremely grateful for the support given to us by the voters, and we strive to be good stewards in providing the best academic environments possible to support our students. Go Bulldogs!

June 2026
Welcome to the June Construction Update for Birch Elementary School! With school officially over for the year and students and staff off for a well-earned summer break, construction at Birch is well underway. To allow the contractor to make the most of the summer “down time” the school building, along with select spots around the campus, are off limits to anyone besides construction personnel. This will be the case for the duration of the summer. Below is an overview of the construction activities that will be taking place throughout the Birch campus during the month of June:
- Begin demo of west parking lot and bus loop
- Demo and replace bike racks
- Begin replacement of lights with LED fixtures
- Demo of flooring in select areas around the school
- Begin painting of walls in select areas around the school (approximately half the school)
- Replace lights in the gym
- Select asbestos abatement activity in small, select areas of the school (completed early June)
While the majority of the surrounding campus is accessible to the public, we ask that you and your students avoid coming to the school building itself unless specifically authorized to do so. We are very excited about the changes in store for Birch and sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work our way through this busy summer of construction. We hope you are having a wonderful and relaxing start to your summer break!

Dear Birch Elementary School Parents and Staff,
We hope this has been a successful school year for you and your student(s)! The BVSD Bond team is excited to let you know construction will be starting soon for renovations provided by the Building for Student Success program. These improvements are coming to Birch Elementary School thanks to support from the entire BVSD community through passage of the 2022 Bond measure.
In addition to much-needed repair and upgrades to building systems and finishes, highlights of the improvements coming to Birch Elementary include:
- Replacing soffits and skylights
- Asphalt/concrete pavement repair and replacement
- Interior improvements to address critical needs for learning environments (including flooring and ceilings)
The full scope of work can be found on the BVSD Building for Student Success website on the Birch Elementary School project page.
Our $1.3 million project will begin after the students leave in May and is scheduled to be completed by the time students return in August. There will be no public access to the school or grounds over the summer.
Student and staff safety is our top priority at Birch Elementary School and in the Boulder Valley School District. All workers who are authorized to be on-site will have numbered project stickers on their hard hats and will have background checks. There should be no reason for workers to interact with students or staff while they are in the school.
We want to keep you informed as the project progresses. We will meet weekly with the architect(s) and construction company and will update you regularly about construction progress during the summer months. Project information, including monthly construction updates can be found on the Birch Elementary School project website. Specific questions should be directed to me, Stephen Henry at 720-561-5953 or stephen.henry@bvsd.org.
As always, we are extremely grateful to BVSD taxpayers for this project and to you for your continued support of Birch Elementary School. We hope you share our excitement for the great changes happening here.
Sincerely,
Stephen Henry
BVSD Project Manager

The principal will decide which school staff or parents might need to be involved with the design process depending on the scope of work. The project manager will share information with the entire school staff at key milestones through the design process.
