July 2026

Welcome to the July Construction Update for Aspen Creek PK8! We hope summer is in full swing for you and your family, as it certainly is from our side of the fence, with plenty of work ahead from now to August. With a good portion of the summer behind us, we are pleased to report that the Aspen Creek project is rolling along smoothly as we work toward substantial completion on Aug. 1 in time to welcome staff and students back to the building. We will be wrapping up final items outside of school hours, with final completion anticipated in early fall.  Construction activity planned for the month of July is detailed below:

• Complete paving and striping of front parking lot
• Complete switch gear replacement in electrical room
• Finish all flooring and walls in wood shop along with installation of new dust collector system
• Replace large skylights in the second floor hallway
• Complete all painting and touch-up work in select areas of the school

There are exciting changes coming to Aspen Creek PK-8, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we work through the end of this summer project. Note that the school, and parts of the grounds, are still an active construction site. Thus, for the safety of everyone, we ask that you avoid coming to the campus unless absolutely necessary. The Boulder Valley School District is extremely grateful for the support given to us by the voters, and we strive to be good stewards in providing the best academic environments possible to support our students. June 2026

Welcome to the June Construction Update for Aspen Creek K8!  With school officially over for the year and students and staff off for a well-earned summer break, construction at Aspen Creek K-8 is well underway. To allow the contractor to make the most of the summer “down time” the school building, along with select spots around the campus, are off limits to anyone besides construction personnel. This will be the case for the duration of the summer. Below is an overview of the construction activities that will be taking place throughout the Aspen Creek campus during the month of June:

• Demo of existing flooring throughout the school (carpeted areas)
• Demo of switchgear and begin electrical upgrades (note: there will be no power on the site from 6/5 through 7/7 2026)
• Begin demo of main parking lot on the east side of the school
• Begin demo of CTE area (woodshop)
• Cement treatment of the subgrade of east parking lot

While the majority of the surrounding campus is accessible to the public, we ask that you and your students avoid coming to the school building itself unless specifically authorized to do so. We are very excited about the changes in store for Aspen Creek and sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work our way through this busy summer of construction. Dear Aspen Creek PK8 School Parents and Staff,

We hope this has been a successful school year for you and your student(s)! The BVSD Bond team is excited to let you know construction will be starting soon for renovations provided by the Building for Student Success program. These improvements are coming to Aspen Creek PK8 School thanks to support from the entire BVSD community through passage of the 2022 Bond measure.  

In addition to much-needed repair and upgrades to building systems and finishes, highlights of the improvements coming to Aspen Creek include:

• Concrete and paving repairs in the west parking lot and full replacement in the east parking lot
• Replacing large pyramidal skylights
• Repairing/replacing soffits
• Replacing the building electrical distribution equipment (switchgear)
• Replacing the emergency generator
• Interior finish improvements such as flooring, paint, and ceilings
• Renovations to expand opportunities for Career and Technical Education

Our $6.5 million project will begin after the students leave in May and is scheduled to be completed by the time students return in August.   

Student and staff safety is our top priority at Aspen Creek PK8 School and in the Boulder Valley School District. During the summer months, there will be no access to the building and school grounds. For everyone’s safety, please comply with all posted signage and temporary barriers. 

All workers who are authorized to be on-site will have numbered project stickers on their hard hats and will have background checks. Generally, there should be no reason for workers to interact with school staff or community members during this project.

We want to keep you informed as the project progresses. We will meet weekly with the architect(s) and construction company and will update you regularly about construction progress during the summer months. May 2026

Project postcards were sent to neighbors this month.

April 2026

The Contractors are gearing up to start work on the building updates and improvements in our Critical Needs Plan. Construction for the Phase 3 projects will begin after the students leave in May for summer break.

January 2026

The Board approved the GMP Contract in November.  Construction is scheduled to commence on May 26, 2026 with a substantial completion date of August 1, 2026.

September 2025

The project teams are in the final stages of design for the Phase 3 projects.  Construction documents will be issued in the fall and the contractor’s guaranteed maximum price (GMP) will go to the Board for approval in November.  Construction is expected to kick off in May 2026 after the students leave for summer break.

April 2025

Design meetings with the project team and school staff will continue through the summer. Construction documents will be completed this fall with construction bidding planned for late fall.  Construction for Phase 3 projects will begin in the spring/summer of 2026.

February 2025

Aspen Creek PK8 project postcards were sent to neighbors this month.

January 2025

The project team of BVH Architects and Alliance Construction Solutions have been selected for the project.  The project team will begin meeting with the Design Advisory Team this month.

November 2024

The project team of BVH Architects and Alliance Construction Solutions have been selected for the project. 

September 2024

The Bond project management team will be working with our Procurement staff this fall to contract with architects and general contractors for Phase 3 projects. 

December 2023

The roof replacement portion of the project is complete.  The Critical Needs work will be completed in Phase 3, which is scheduled for 2026.  Additional updates will be provided as time warrants.  Stay tuned for further information about our project.

July 2023

The roof replacement project is approximately 90% complete. The new membrane roof is being installed over the worn-out, leaky roofs, reducing the amount of material that would have been sent to a landfill if the old roofs were removed. Bonus - some ballast material was removed from the old roofs and reused as a road base on another BVSD site. The project is on schedule to be complete by the end of July. 

June 2023

Thanks to the generous voters of Boulder Valley School District, Aspen Creek PK-8 will receive over $5.1M in building renovations. This work includes much-needed repair and maintenance, such as roof repair; replacing deteriorating components of the HVAC and plumbing systems; repairing damaged asphalt and concrete; and installing new flooring and paint among other important work. We are particularly excited about renovations that will allow us to offer our students more opportunities for Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes.

Much of this work is several years away. However, because of the urgency, roof repair is happening this summer. This work is currently underway and will continue through July.
