Construction Update June 2016 Updates/DispForm.aspx?ID=10 Updates/DispForm.aspx?ID=10{28e838a4-8015-4177-ac17-2576b5d1e514}Construction Update June 2016The contents of the classrooms were removed/stored on Memorial Day weekend and full summer construction activity has now begun at Alicia Sanchez International! Please note that there will be a great deal of activity on the school site over the summer and we ask that you avoid coming onto the school site whenever possible. Please see below for specific work that will be completed in the month of June, both inside and outside of the school: JUNE – 2016 Construction Activity: 1. Continue installation of concrete pit ramp/curb by chiller 2. Complete installation of duct work in classrooms 3. Demo ceilings (corridors), framing, louvre openings, etc. 4. Install Lintel, rough controls 5. Reframing, drywall covering of louvre openings. 6. Set AC units and install controls 7. Install grid in corridor ceilings 8. Install windows in various areas of the school 9. Finish chiller enclosure 10. Set new boiler and equipment (controls, etc.) 11. Install new transformer unit and run electrical lines 12. Install new piping throughout the school 13. New Entry: Demo, structure work, framing, roofing, mech/electrical install, install new ceiling & entry doors, begin stucco 14. New Pre – K Classrooms: Demo area, relocate plumbing, framing, drywall/tape, mech/electrical install, paint 15. Roof/Penthouse: Remove louvre, remove AHU’s, install new AHU’s, demo electric, terminate piping, duct, electrical 16. In addition, work will begin on the inside of the school. The primary area of focus will be on the installation of ductwork in the cafeteria and gymnasium. Construction will take place during the daytime this week as students and staff are gone for Spring Break. March 28 – April 1: Construction will be centered on the following classrooms: #123, 127, 128, 134, and 135. Installation of ductwork, chilled water lines and electrical is the primary focus for these areas. The work in each room is expected to take approximately 2 nights to complete. Construction will take place during the evening hours beginning this week and will continue at this time through the end of the school year. Note: The bulk of the work at Sanchez Elementary this spring will be done inside the school itself. The work shift will begin after school hours and into the evening (approximately 4 p.m. – 12 p.m.). Construction during the next two weeks will be focused on continuing the prep work for the air conditioning which will be brought into the school next year! Structural mounts, core holes, hangers for pipes and fittings for the new unit ventilators (which will be installed in each room) are being put in place in both the classrooms and corridor areas. The contractor is currently planning for the next phase of work (beginning approximately May 1). The following rooms & corridors will be worked on over the next three weeks  April 11 - 15: Rooms 117, 118, 121, 123, 122, 127, corridors 505, 506 & 507. Construction will take place during the daytime on Friday through Monday, April 15 – 18, as students and staff are off school on these days (enjoy the four day weekend!).  April 18 - 22: Rooms 114, 115, 116, complete work in rooms 117, 118, 121. Finally, work will take place in corridor 503. Reminder that construction will take place during the daytime on Monday, April 18th of this week. Note: The bulk of the work at Sanchez Elementary this spring will be done inside the school itself. The work shift will begin after school hours and into the evening (approximately 4 p.m. – 12 p.m.). Note that on May 27th and 28th, there will be a full move of the classroom items to either the gym area or to Conex containers. Full construction will begin on Tuesday, May 31st and the entire site will be off limits to students, staff and visitors (this includes the entire outside area and inside the school. Please see the information below for specific details regarding the work to be done each week:  May 23 - 27: Demo of sidewalk out by construction trailer, begin installation of chiller enclosure and installation of electrical run to chiller transformer. Note: Moving of school classrooms and offices on May 27 – 28.  May 30 – June 3: Full construction begins both inside and outside of school! Demo of ceilings, setting of the boiler and chiller as well as installation of transformer unit.,

  • HVAC system improvements
  • Install building-wide air conditioning
  • Electrical system upgrades including emergency generator
  • Communications and clock system improvements
  • Repair/replace fixtures such as curtains and casework
  • Site improvements such as paving, landscaping and irrigation
  • Audio enhancement in every classroom**

Program Compatibility Assessment

  • Provide adequate space for full-day kindergarten
  • Provide adequate space for preschool​

Health and Physical Development

  • Upgrade playground equipment and surface material

Safety and Security

  • Install electronic security controls

Sanchez Elementary School is eligible to receive up to $200,000 in additional funds to implement facility improvements that support innovative teaching methods. ​
