Board Approved Grants Applications | Jan. 23, 2024

At the January 23 meeting, the Board gave staff  the go ahead to submit applications to the State's BEST program for grants for the New Vista and Boulder Prep high school projects.

  • Boulder Prep High School - BEST Grant Capital Construction for $1,000,000
The Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) Grant Program from the Colorado Department of Education helps with the construction of new schools and general construction and renovation of existing school facility systems and structures. With this grant, BVSD would be able to address facility needs that were not included in the 2022 Critical Needs Plan. This would include additional roof replacements, HVAC and security system improvements, and classroom space improvements.

  • New Vista High School - BEST Grant Capital Construction for $3,000,000
Upon completing an updated environmental building assessment, it was determined that the scope of asbestos abatement will be significantly more than originally anticipated to demolish the current building. Initial estimates from consultants project that abatement may cost approximately 50-75% more than prior estimates. If the BEST grant is awarded, it will help cover the increased costs.

Before coming to work at the Boulder Valley School District, as the executive director of Bond Planning & Construction, BVSD left quite an impression on Kris Stoppenhagen. “Boulder Valley School District was really my favorite client,” Stoppenhagen said.

As a project manager with RLH Engineering, Stoppenhagen worked with a lot of local school districts including Jeffco Public Schools, Eaton School District, Weld RE-4 in Windsor and Thompson School District.  Through different projects, BVSD always stood out to him.
