New construction and renovations projected to improve energy efficiency and save money Quick Links/DispForm.aspx?ID=11 Quick Links/DispForm.aspx?ID=11{28e838a4-8015-4177-ac17-2576b5d1e514}New construction and renovations projected to improve energy efficiency and save moneyEnergy modeling for the new Creekside, Douglass and Emerald buildings predicts significant reductions in energy use compared to the current buildings and compared with code-compliant construction. BVSD's Sustainable Energy Plan sets a goal of Zero Net Energy or Zero Net Energy Capable for new construction. Zero net energy means that a building produces as much energy through renewable sources as it uses. ZNEC buildings are designed to be as energy efficient as possible and to allow for the future installation of renewable energy generators such as wind turbines or photovoltaic panels. The new Erie PK-8 is predicted to be as energy efficient as LEED Platinum certified Casey Middle School. Deep Energy Retrofits were conducted on several other projects and are yielding equally impressive results. In particular, overall energy use at Broomfield Heights is predicted to drop by nearly 30 percent even though air conditioning has been installed in the building.

Because they are more durable than natural grass, the artificial fields provide more play time each day and throughout the year. The fields also use less water and chemicals and require less maintenance than natural grass.
